I hope you have all been well. What a summer hey! Well, despite the UK weather my last few weeks have not been dampened. From a wedding in a tee pee to a charity BBQ in a friend’s back garden; it has been a lovely and eventful time.
I can’t really complain about the UK rainfall too much as I have been spending a lot of time in Spain. It’s certainly all fun but not a holiday I can tell you. I have been heavily focused on my work over in Spain, especially with my amazing band 38 Degrees South. These guys really are amazing and if I say it every day, I won’t apologise, because I think they deserve all the credit they can get. As we are adding more songs to the set list, it’s becoming clear just how good these guys are.
On Wednesday 26th August we have our next gig in Javea at a place called Nostro lounge. I love performing at this venue. Not only are the crowd always great but the views are amazing. As I look out from the stage towards the audience, I can also see the ocean and the beach.
This is our last show for a while because we want to do some more rehearsing and put a lot more songs in the set. We will come back with a great new launch show followed by some great Weddings and some corporate shows already in the Diary. I am very confident that this band will be doing great things in 2016 and with the 2016 Moraira Music festival already in the diary, it can only get better.
Back in the UK it has been amazing too. I have performed at some great weddings. One that stands out for me was a Wedding in a Tee Pee. It was in a back garden, but what a transformation. It just shows how weddings have changed over time. From traditional Churches and hotel receptions, to Marquee’s and Tee Pees…..
On the Wedding theme I would just like to thank everyone that takes the time to write to me with their reviews of the evening. It gives us a chance to make sure that the service we provide remains top quality. Also the comments mean a lot to me personally, to know that what I do is appreciated and that it contributes to a couple’s big day. I’d like to share a couple of my recent reviews with you.
“I was looking for a really good singer (Particularly Soul) for mine and Lance wedding. We met later in life after Lance lost his first wife under very tragic circumstances. So we really wanted someone special that did not sound like a typical wedding singer but really a class of their own and boy did we get just that Matt was so professional learnt all our favourite songs and had the best Soul sound ever. My guests are still commenting on Matts performance over a year later nothing was to much trouble for him. We had an introduction meeting to begin with where we discussed all the song choices and type of music for the evening Matt really listened to our requests and as a result the whole performance from Matt was exactly what we wanted and was truly exceptional. His personality was really nice too lovely gentleman not loud and overbearing like the wedding singer we saw a few days later when we went to pick up some things from the wedding venue. Matt just gently entertained everyone and it was what we wanted nothing too over the top no big silly speeches and trying to hype everyone up I am sure if we wanted that he would have provided that but he knew we wanted soft soul experience. It was very moving the way he had covered some of the songs really hit you in the heart. He was exceptional singer, exceptional person and we had an exceptional wedding day”
“Matt sang at our wedding reception in May 2014. We had seen him perform at a wedding fair in 2013 and were convinced by the time we’d listened to the 2nd line of the first song, that Matt was the singer for us, and we booked him there and then with no further thought necessary! On the night, our guests were amazed – he is absolutely brilliant, sometimes you couldn’t tell whether it was Matt singing or the real artist!!! We would definitely recommend him to anyone – no need to look around”
Reading these reviews makes me realize how lucky I am to do a job that I love.
While I was over in Spain I went to meet up with some of my former Prison service colleagues in Benidorm on their annual trip away. Whilst there, I was asked to perform at a charity BBQ being held in a garden of one of the guys, well, I couldn’t refuse so we agreed the date. It’s never easy performing in front of your friends and family and especially not in front of former colleagues. But what an afternoon it was, I didn’t want to leave in the end. It was great to catch up with even more former colleagues who I have to say were just full of support. I was amazed at the amount of people who had followed my career and what I had been up too.
On another note, you may know that as well as performing solo and with my Spanish and UK bands, I also performed as 1/3 of the group ‘Tameka Jackson and the Miracles’. However, due to the success of my other shows I was no longer able to commit the time needed to the Miracles show so with regret; I am no longer performing with the guys. I had a great time with them and we did some amazing shows. I wish them all the best for the future and I hope whoever replaces me in the group has as good a time as I did.
As my career grows, evolves and moves in different directions I cannot regret any changes, decisions or actions. Every time I take a new direction, I face new and exciting challenges and meet even more amazing people. It can only be a good thing.
Until next time,
Don’t forget to catch Matt live at the Jazz café in September.
